WELCOME
TO LAMVELASE: TOWARDS A HEALTHIER CITY
THE
word LaMvelase Help Centre has in recent years become a
household name in Manzini yet many still wonder what it
is all about. It is the Municipal Council of Manzini’s
HIV and AIDS wing whose programme includes HIV and AIDS
prevention, care and support as well as impact
mitigation. It has more to do with community
mobilization on the above aspects. Some refer to it as
AMICAALL. When His Majesty King Mswati III officially
opened it on August 27, 2004 he gave it the name
LaMvelase Help Centre. LaMvelase is located at the
corner of Sandlane and Nkoseluhlaza streets opposite the
Manzini National Library. Their contact is 505 4266.
ENGAGE IN FREE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
With
the establishment of LaMvelase the youth of Manzini now
enjoy various sporting activities from our recreational
facilities availed to them at no cost. We have
volleyball, basketball, netball and tennis courts at the
centre. The only thing you need to do to gain access to
them is to write to the Municipal Aids Programme Manager
and file your request. This helps us draw a proper
schedule because some companies and schools are already
utilizing the facility. Besides keeping the youth
healthy and strong, these facilities keep them busy and
free from risk behaviour such as drug abuse. Remember:
they say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Through
these recreational facilities the youth are also able to
identify their talent at a tender age. The setback is
that for now we do not have the equipment for these
sporting activities hence residents are encouraged to
bring their
